Rotary is a service club. People are our business. Our product is service to our community, and providing service is the number-one reason people choose to become Rotarians. In an increasingly complex world, Rotary helps fulfill two of the most basic human needs: friendship and fellowship. It is one of two reasons why Rotary began in 1905. Above all, Rotarians are nice people—some of the nicest on the face of the earth, in fact. They follow the saying, "It is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice."

 

As a Rotarian you can make a significant contribution to the welfare of your community. Through the Rotary Foundation and participation of other Rotary Clubs around the world, you will have the financial support to make your dreams into reality. Engage Rotary; change lives.

 

Being a Rotarian makes you a better community citizen. Rotarians are active people. There are 29,000 Rotary Clubs in 194 countries around the world. Wherever you may be, you are certain to be welcomed by other Rotarians.

 

Each week at Rotary, a program keeps you informed about what is going on in the community, nation, and world. Each meeting provides an opportunity to listen to different speakers on a variety of timely topics. Rotary is a positive force for peace in the world.

 

Rotary is fun—a lot of fun. Each meeting is fun. The club projects are fun. Social activities are fun. The service is fun. Every Rotary club and Rotary district has parties and activities that provide diversion in our lives. Rotary holds conferences, conventions, assemblies, and institutes that provide entertainment in addition to information, education, and service.

Rotarians practice a Four-Way Test that governs our ethical standards. Rotarians are expected to be, and are, ethical in their business and personal relationships. These standards are reinforced at every Rotary club meeting. 

 

Around the world, Rotary encompasses practically every religion, country, culture, race, creed, political persuasion, language, color, and ethnic identity. It is a cross-section of the world’s most prominent citizens from every background. Rotarians become more aware of their cultures and learn to love and work with people everywhere. They become better global citizens in the process.

 

Because there are Rotary clubs everywhere, many a Rotarian in need of a doctor, lawyer, hotel, dentist, advice, etc., while traveling has found assistance through a local Rotary club somewhere in the world.
