Rotarians Gone Wild

Thursday, November 16, 2017

An outsider might have been surprised to see Rotarians skipping, high-fiving, and speaking to one another in foreign tongues last Thursday.  Using the premise "We learn better when we move," Sheryl Barto had Ralph's Roost "rockin" last Thursday morning.

Perhaps it's time to add a fifth question to the Four-Way Test: "Will it get our blood flowing?"

Speaker:  Sheryl Barto, Executive Director, Smiling Goal Ranch.
Located just outside of downtown Carbondale, the ranch's mission is  focused and clear: "To bring the healing effects of horses, movement, nature and supportive community to autism families, veterans with PTSD, children and adults with ADD/ADHD, anxiety, and related conditions free of charge.

Sheryl is a certified trainer in the "Movement Method."  Based on the book, The Horse Boy, and the movie by the same name,  this method is taking the science of learning to new levels. More at  www.horseboyfoundation.org

Guests: Ellie Clark (Tom Clark), Virginia Baker (Roger Nicholson), Chris Peterson (next year's Rotary District Governor)

Tis the Season
John Ward announced that he will be managing the sign-up for Rotarians who wish to ring the bell in front of Clark's Market and the other grocery store this holiday season. A brief discussion ensued on whether the Salvation Army should continue to be the recipient of the funds raised. The majority said "yes."

Rotary Holiday Party:  Cooking School of Aspen. Thursday, December 14: 6:00 PM. No Rotary that morning!

Upcoming Speakers

You Are the Speaker!

November 23: No Rotary Meeting. You're the speaker at your own dinner table. Make it interesting!

November 30: TBA

New Member Process Faster, More Transparent

At this month's Board meeting, Membership Committee Chair Deborah Breen outlined our modified  process for proposing new members. This process is designed to speed up the process and to communicate more clearly with the proposed member. What you need to know:

Step 1: Notify Deborah that you are considering proposing someone.
Step 2: Bring this member to 3 breakfasts - within a 5-week period. (No charge to you.)
Step 3: Your proposed member will be invited to a monthly Membership Committee meeting - during the first 5 weeks.
