Sergeant at Arms Jon Kelly opened the meeting by quoting Walt Whitman, "Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you".  He then led the Pledge of Allegiance to a flag in the distance, viewed through a window, since there was no flag in the room.  What's a Sergeant of Arms without a flag?

Speaker:  Amy Simon, City of Aspen.  Amy is Director of Aspen Historic Preservation and Aspen Modern.  Amy explained the process and factors that determine the placement of areas and properties on the rolls of Historic Preservation.  She discussed the oversight of architectural revisions of Historic buildings, how much can change, how much cannot and why.  Aspen Modern is a separate organization that deals with architecture less than 30 years in age.  Some world famous modern architects have designed buildings in Aspen and Pitkin County and there is interest in maintaining the original designs of the newer buildings as well.  She showed many examples of interesting buildings in our area and the result was a trip through the Aspen area history.

Guests:  Dave Ressler, Aspen Valley Hospital; guest of Deborah Breen.  Melody Durham, Aspen Valley Hospital; guest of Joe Zanin.  Jim Peterson, Timberline Bank; guest of Mike Taets.

Todd Shaver reminded all that the annual Aspen Trash Crush is this weekend, Friday the 2nd and Saturday the 3rd.  Contact Todd if you can help.  Let's make our beautiful area even more so!
President Craig Melville reminded attendees that the deadline for Ducky Derby sponsorships is at hand.  To-date total as of this publication is $100,750.  Noori is this year's Title sponsor and The Mountain Chalet is the Platinum Sponsor.

A Paul Harris Fellow award was presented to Melody Durham, who is the director of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department at Aspen Valley Hospital.  This was requested by Frank McGwire a Rotarian from The Bahamas who received exemplary Physical Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation assistance from Melody shortly after suffering a heart attack in December.  He was visiting Aspen in January and Melody helped him back to good health during his stay here.
