Thanks to Aspen Rotary,  Adriana Martinez broadened her horizons by spending the the year immersing herself in local culture and life.  From Madrid, Spain, she enrolled in Aspen High School this past fall, and spent her time living with three different host families: the Fuller's, Rotarian Samantha Johnston, and the Stephenson's in Snowmass.  During her presentation on Thursday, Adriana shared videos and pictures highlighting her favorite moments from the year.

Provided by Aspen Rotary, Adriana received a ski pass and gear, giving her a chance to take up snowboarding as a new sport.  As she explained, "every weekend I loved to be able to go the mountain, sometimes with friends, sometimes alone."  Her favorite trips were visits to Moab, Telluride, and Dallas.  Her favorite event that she "waited the whole year for" was Prom.  Her favorite holiday experience was Thanksgiving, save preparing the turkey.  Her most difficult cultural transition was greeting people, where she considered shaking hands as opposed to kisses on the cheek "weird."

Most notable in Adriana's presentation were the relationships she forged with host families and friends. Many fond memories were made breaking the ice with her shy host brothers, life guiding conversations with Sam, and time spent with different groups of friends.  Although she looks forward to returning to life back in Spain, the rich experiences and people clearly made a lasting positive impact on her life.  The videos and pictures Adriana shared reaffirms the priceless benefits of Aspen Rotary's student exchange program.
