Sergeant at Arms Doug Peckham opened the meeting and, in recognition of Independence Day, quoted Thomas Jefferson:  "Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others.  I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual".

Guests:  Carrie Besnette Hauser, Ph.D. President and CEO of Colorado Mountain College, guest of Charles Cunniffe and Jessica Moore, guest of Sam Johnston.

Speaker:  Alan Fletcher, President and CEO of the Aspen Music Festival and School.  This was his twelfth visit to Aspen Rotary and was introduced by Keith Elder.  Mr. Fletcher detailed the benefits available to residents, particularly children, of AMFS as programs for both learning music and appreciating music are available to all such as:
*After school music programs
*Private lessons during the summer
*AMFS music experiences during the school year
*Honor ensembles for local students
*Summer Camp opportunities
*Free and fun music programs for young kids and families
*Summer programming for local music students: P.A.L.S.

This summer the Aspen Music Festival will encompass approximately 400 separate events and will feature five orchestras.  In attendance with Alan were his Assistant, Katie Stookesbury and Zachary Reaves, cellist who entertained at the end of the meeting with a very skillful cello solo.
