WHAT'S SICILIAN ALZHEIMER'S?

Thursday, December 7, 2017

Speaker:  Huntington Potter, Ph.D.

Dr. Potter, spoke on Developing a Cure and Improving Care for Alzheimer's.

Dr. Huntington Potter is Professor and Vice Chair for Basic Research, Department of Neurology, Director of the Rocky Mountain Alzheimer’s Disease Center at the University of Colorado, and Director of Alzheimer’s Disease Programs. His laboratory seeks to identify and develop new therapies to stop Alzheimer’s disease, to reverse its cognitive effects, and to ultimately cure the disease forever.

Free medical advice to avoid or delay Alzheimer’s disease:  get lots of exercise, consume a lot of caffeine, engage in a lot of cognitive activity.

Guests:  Greg Lewis, career sports caster for NBC and CBS (Maurice Emmer)

Remembering Pearl Harbor Day, recognize the magnitude and consequences.  No, Pearl Harbor Day should not be commemorated by getting bombed.

Please RSVP for the holiday dinner, December 14 at the Cooking School of Aspen.  RSVP is in the emailed invitation.

A thank you and status report were received from Bridges to Prosperity.

John Ward encouraged members to sign up to ring the bell for Salvation Army.  Karen Lee, a case worker for the Salvation Army, described the work of the organization.  Ms. Lee emphasized that the Salvation Army provides services to anyone and everyone regardless of race, religion, or sexual or gender orientation.

Jeanette Darnauer encouraged support and thoughts for those affected by Southern California fires.

Following a hopelessly ill-timed trip for coffee refills, the raffle eventually was won by John Moore.  The jackpot eluded him, however.

Committee News

John Moore provided an update on the activity of the community grants committee.

Deborah Breen provided an update on the activity of the membership committee.  Deborah requests that when inviting new guests to a club meeting, members should notify a member of the membership committee of the identity of the guest so the name can be circulated as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary embarrassment if the guest later is proposed for membership.
