Speaker:  John Masters, executive director of Grassroots Network speaks to our early rising club, "Think before you speak!"

History of the network began with John Smith, a Kentucky native and on-again off-again Aspenite, who was teaching journalism at UCLA in the 1960s when he observed that television coverage of the 1965 riots in Watts was one-sided, with no voice from people on the streets.

Masters continued to demonstrate the evolution of Grassroots speaking from both the combination of American and Greek ideas to bring us to their mission of connecting and sharing to nurture and protect the channels of open communication for all citizens of the Roaring Fork Valley.

But as we all know, sharing truths and perceived truths may be entertaining, but not always easy. John aludes to the importance yet delicacy of giving a voice to those who may not have one by drawing upon the similarities between Rotary and television production's own version of the four way test: It is True? Is it Necessary? Is it Useful or Is it Time for it? Is it Kind?

In finale, John additionally delights us with fond memories of his father's Rotarian days. His father's love and devotion to Rotary gave him the opportunity to successfully serve others and be around other like minded individuals whose purpose was to serve others.

Guests: Jim Williams from KSNO, guest of Todd Shaver. Past Aspen Rotarians, Blair Flickinger, her darling baby Josey, and Piper Foster Wilder

Kurt Adams speaks to us about the Rotary Foundation: 'We need to have some fun!'  He announces with praise and gratitude that our club has given a total of $774,583.70 to the Foundation. These moneys have helped to support Rotary International. The fun he encourages us to have is to continue our efforts of giving. From now till the 31st of December, for every $100 you give to the foundation, it will be matched with another $100. The holiday season is just another great reason to support this effort of giving!
