Speaker: Adriana Martinez, from Madrid Spain, is our youth exchange student for 2016-2017.

Adriana took Thursday morning to share with us beautiful pictures of her town in Torrelodones as well as her family and country's traditions. She was proud to talk about her church, which she referenced as her second family and a place she has fond memories while growing up.

Education in Spain is somewhat different than that in the US. She shares with us an up close and personal view of her classroom, where each student will have an iPad, they will sit in different seats each day to connect with all the students, and they will also have one teacher per grade, whom Adriana noted as highly respected among the children. Additionally, her school began a radio station that she and fellow classmates enjoyed being part of.

Adrian's travels to Aspen were not exactly smooth sailing. Her flights kept her down south for a day later than expected. Nonetheless, she was overjoyed with a gathering of Aspen Rotarians at there arrival. Our American culture may have caught her off guard at introduction; she explains in laughter, "I am use to a double kiss on each cheek....not a hand shake!?"

Adriana spent her first three months with the Uhlfelders. She is now residing with her host mom and Rotarian, Sam Johnson. She has been privileged to join the Aspen High School dance team and also learn snowboarding!  She is excited about prom night and has been overjoyed by the adventures of ex-ed and her youth exchange trips. Melanie and Maggie, who we know all so well, have helped Adriana to become acquainted with the Aspen and the American culture.

Guests: Macy Morris, previous Rotarian and guest of Roger Nickelson. Jud Hawk of the Meadows.

In final...
As your last newsletter editor for 2016, I hope this past year provided you and your family with many memories of joy, hope, and success. I am positive we can all look back and note some mishap-endings that we'd rather not hit reply again. But those are the moments that push us to become stronger, more resilient, and brave. During my work this year, I entrenched my yearning for knowledge around how to become a better leader. The acronym to live BIG was a central part for how I may encompass this in my life, and my work.  To Live BIG means to live with boundaries, integrity, and generosity. Easier said than done, especially when we carry around the human experience of shame. My one wish for you all to take the past and capitalize on the lessons learned, the pain suffered, the joy shared, and LIVE BIG!
Yours Truly,
The therapist
