Christina King, Editor-of-the-month
Thursday, April 7th, 2016.
Speaker: Ann Marie presented on her published book, Letters to Ann: The Korean War 1950-51, which was a double-winner at the juried 2014 Colorado Independent Publishers Association EVVY Awards.

Interestingly, M*A*S*H (and no I am not too young to have missed this series) is a very real depiction of the  events from the Korean War; the main character in Ann's book, Captain John F. Hughs, wrote letters to his four year old daughter, Ann Isabel, while working as a physician and medical officer. Although the Captain rarely experienced funny moments during his time at war, his letters to Ann Isabel were nothing but humorous and artistic to assure his little one that he would come home one day. And that he did. In fact, Ann Marie's husband, Richard, sitting in the audience at our breakfast, is the Captain's youngest son.

We are sorry you missed a great speaking engagement, and we are even more sorry you missed Todd Shaver get all hot and bothered by Marilyn Monroe's photo during the presentation!

Watch your email or Aspen Rotary's facebook page, for upcoming breakfast locations! (Craig Melville)

Christina King announced that it was National Alcohol Screening Day and Alcohol Awareness month. She requested Rotarians to take out their smart phones and get a check up from the neck up ~ a quick, anonymous, free mental health assessment. Aspen Strong is attempting to screen many people in the Roaring Fork Valley for Alcohol or Substance abuse this month!

Norm Bacheldor and Michael Miracle are our rotarian guests under the 10 day review! They look like some pretty stellar additions. But Im positive they won't beat my 6 week blue badge record.

Committee News
Ducky Derby efforts continue with lead duck Chris Bendon. Committees sound like they are doing their best effort to keep him afloat, a head duck down would not be good, so keep up the good work and mark your calendars for Derby date August 13th. Which means the 11th is duck stuffing day (AKA stickering and throwing back burgers).

Also, put your sales hats on and let's bring in the dough! Ducky Derby is our annual event to support our efforts of serving the community by providing scholarships to students and non-profits in Aspen, supporting youth exchange, and our world service projects like the Guatemala Literacy Program and our efforts to end Polio.
