Volume II, Issue 16, April 14, 2016 ~ THE THERAPIST'S EDITION

Dear Rotarians,
It's a personal delight of mine to attend rotary breakfast each Thursday. My favorite part is social time, when we get to mingle, sip tea, and (for me) get a peck on the lips by the Rotary veterans (Bill Sharp and Joe Zanin) and Craig Melville too! That's the part of my week where I don't have to put a facade on, analyze the world around me, check finances on my foundation, or answer multiple messages from clients. It's the moment when I realize how unique our town is, our club is, and, with that, my life! It's the moment, I stand around all of you amazing and successful men and women, and realize life can be anything you want it to be. I feel honored to call the members of this club my friends and fellow Rotarians.
Yours Truly,
The Psychotherapist

Jon Kelly started off our morning with some fun facts and a quote he shared too quickly for me to type. Thomas Jefferson, if still alive, would be 273 years old. The Golden State Warriors broke the Bulls record this year with 73 wins. Their star player, Steven Curry, broke a record with 10 3-pointers in one game and 402 triples on the year! WOW!

John Ward reminds us that it is off-season and thus no speaker! Not even Craig.

DUCKY DERBY SPONSORSHIP
Frieda Wallison reminds us the vitality of sponsorship sales for Ducky Derby! Our sponsorships have hit a steady halt at $34,500 which is made up of Clarks Markets at $20,000 and Noori Collection at $10,000. Get your sales caps on and lets start pitching! To be a Rotarian is to give back to our community, but it would be senseless to say that the pockets of those in our club could give back to all of the need we wish to support. That's where our voices and rolladecks come in hand!

WHAT DOES DUCKY DERBY SUPPORT: Ducky Derby is our annual event to support our efforts of serving the community by providing scholarships to students and non-profits in Aspen, supporting youth exchange, and our world service projects like the Guatemala Literacy Program and our efforts to end Polio.

The sponsorship committee is finalizing sponsor forms and documents. We will send out to all members - be on the look out!
Aspen Camp raised $75,000 thus far with support from some of our own; Deborah Breen, Roger Nicholson, Steve Wickes, Emily Burr, and Skip Behrhorst. (Round of applause!!!)

The Rotary Club Foundation has announced that their Presidential Grant will fund the Guatemala Literacy Program and will be matched by the World Service Committee Program.

NEXT THURSDAY ROB ITTNER WILL HOST ROTARY BREAKFAST AT THE COOKING SCHOOL. No wine will actually be served, but I am positive we will be in for a big treat. Snowmass Rotarians will be joining us!

IS COLLEGE WORTH $250,000 FOR 4 YEARs???? Dwayne Romero may disagree, but Kathy Klug invites us to the Meadows Resort Restaurant Tuesday, May 3rd 11:30-1:30pm to be enthralled by 7 deans of admission arguing that college is in fact an undebatable investment to our future. Email Kathy here to rsvp.

Another reason why Ducky Derby sponsorship is so vital is that the funds raised support college scholarships for our very own local students. This year $360,000 in scholarships will be awarded to our graduating class on 6pm April 21st at the Wheeler, presented by John Ward.  60 businesses and Aspen entities, including the Rotary Club of Aspen, are responsible for these gifts! (Pat on the back!!!)

Justin Barrow provides us with information on the new member process. Step 1: Five day Pre-Proposal Period. Step 2: Three Breakfast Meetings. Step 3: Board Approval and 10 day waiting period. Contact Justin for more information.

YOUTH EXCHANGE REQUESTS all Rotarians to use their networks to recruit host families for our 2017 student. Please contact Maurice for suggestions.

SOCIAL MEDIA IS YOUR PR FRIEND
Studies prove that our world today is much safer than it was 40 years ago, but our perception would say otherwise. Why? SOCIAL MEDIA. I'm going to assume the diagnostic statistic manual for clinically diagnosing clients will soon have INTERNET INDUCED ANXIETY in the next century. Needless to say, its our best friend in the marketing and PR world!

I'll let you do the investigating about this. In the mean time, if you are a Facebook user go to Rotary Club of Aspen and click INVITE FRIENDS. Use this function to post on your page or invite your network to like Rotary Facebook page. In the last week Rotary Facebook received 40 more likes because of this function. By next week our club could have a soaring 1000 likes if each of you entertained this idea! The more likes, the greater draw to our Derby efforts.

Get out there and social media-it-up! Ps, like us at @aspenrotary on instagram too!
